Rob Mango, A Retrospective Exhibition

from Source Source

Tribeca-based artist Rob Mango will hold a retrospective exhibition of works from the 70’s to the present at the Elga Wimmer PPC Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Spanning almost four decades, the exhibit will showcase a selection of flat and sculpted paintings, constructions and drawings. Artwork featured in Mango’s memoir 100 Paintings: An Artist’s Life in New York City, which focuses on the art and culture throughout New York City, will also be displayed at the exhibit.

Mango’s uniquely contemporary Baroque sensibility of vibrant colors, richly textured surfaces, elaborate construction, sweeping movement, figurative distortions with a dash of Surrealism, courses through depictions of the figure from representational to abstraction. In Mango's allegorical paintings, the artist is a shape-shifter who encounters the city’s terrors, alluring seductions, and startling epiphanies, but he himself is never fully knowable.

The exhibit will be open to the public November 6-29, Tuesday-Saturday from 11am to 6pm. The gallery will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, November 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A book launch, signing and interview with Mango will be held on Thursday, November 20 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
