Farm Tour and Networking at Broadturn Farm!

from Jeff Marks

E2Tech is teaming up with the Maine Sustainable Agriculture Society (ME SAS) to host a farm tour and networking event at Broad Turn Farm in Scarborough.
Broad Turn Farm, like many regional farms has been covering portions of their productive soils under high tunnels. High tunnels are low to mid tech greenhouses that give farmers an extra bit of climate control and insulation for their crops. This allows them to extend seasons close to 12 months of the year - and sometimes year round.

We’ll tour the high tunnels and discuss why most farmer prefer them over higher tech alternatives. We’ll discuss lessons from ME SAS’ Sustainable Year Round Agriculture project. We’ll hear from some of Maine’s most productive vegetable and flower growers about sustainable agriculture leadership in covered and controlled environment agriculture, and the importance of designing innovative infrastructure with and for Maine’s soils as a centerpiece.

We are eager to cross-pollinate farmers, engineers, solar designers, HVAC specialists, throughout the E2Tech and ME SAS network. We’ll convene at 5pm, hear brief remarks from ME SAS’ Bill Giordano and Broad Turn’s John Bliss at about 5:30 and conduct high tunnel tours at about 6. If it rains, we'll be in the barn - bring a rain coat for the walk to the high tunnels. We'll have chilled beverages, including some great local beers and light appetizers. Join us! (from )
