While American sports fans are gobbling their weekly Sunday NFL action, French zealots are devouring the trotters, courtesy of‎ ‎Empire City Casino’s historic Yonkers Raceway.‎

For the second consecutive week on Sunday, November 16, simulcasting outlets in France wagered in excess of $1.75 million on the matinee card at Yonkers, with many of the contests trotters going 1 and 1/4 miles, an unusual distance in America but extremely popular overseas. The French parimutuel agencies offer the Yonkers betting to‎ Austria, Germany, Holland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, parts of Spain and Malta, as well.

The "French Connection" move by Yonkers COO Bob Galterio and SOA NY president Joe Faraldo ‎has been a great idea rather that a faux ‎‎pas; and for European trotting fans, the joie de vivre‎.

It will be deja vu ‎all over again for four more Sundays, from November 23 through December 14.

French harness racing aficionados are now liking the yonkers-france facebook page, and visiting Yonkers-france.com (all in French, http://www.yonkers-france.com/) which were recent additions to their social media.
