This workshop focuses on how to teach fractions in grades 2-6 based on the Common Core State Standards. Topics covered include the meaning of fractions, how fractions are composed of unit fractions, helping students to understand fractions as numbers, operations with fractions and mixed numbers, how to make the connections between operations with whole numbers and operations with fractions, and activities and games that deepen students understanding of fractions. Teachers and administrators that work with us value our in-depth knowledge and value our interactive training, which focuses on building mathematical content knowledge for teachers in elementary and middle schools. This knowledge forms a ground for both, teaching Singapore Math and for understanding Common Core. This knowledge also helps teachers to understand the developmental stages of students’ problem solving abilities and developmental stages of students’ mathematical thinking progression across grades.
