Description: This workshop is an introduction to the model drawing method used to represent word problems in Singapore Math and Japanese mathematics. Topics covered include the history of model drawing, the relationship of the bar model to the Common Core State Standards, the pedagogy of the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach, how bar and line models are developed informally in early grades, and using part whole and comparison models to solve word problems involving the four operations with whole numbers.
Suggested Audience: teachers in grades 1-4, special education teachers, math specialists and coaches, and those who are new to model drawing.
