The Long Barn is excited to launch a hands-on, outdoor science and nature program at Broadturn Farm for Homeschool students aged 6-12 years old! Enthusiastic & qualified instructors provide students with a unique opportunity for place-based, experiential learning about nature, agriculture and ecology here in the forests, agricultural fields and streams at Broadturn Farm.
The year is divided into two 6-week semesters in the Spring and Fall with a variety of seasonally-appropriate curriculum topics. Students will make journals during their first class to take notes or draw observations during activities. Optional homework assignments are sent home weekly and are reviewed as a group at the beginning of the following class.
Classes will follow this weekly structure: Morning greeting and animal chores, snack, an introductory book/story/activity leading into our day's topic of study, activity/project, closing farewell. Students should come prepared with a snack, filled water bottle, and clothing appropriate for our often unpredictable Maine weather. (from )
