Health, Wellness and Cold/Flu Prevention Events

ShopRite of Hoboken, an Inserra Supermarkets store, is hosting a full roster of health and wellness programs throughout October. Jenna Stock, R.D., in-store registered dietitian, will lead each of the offerings and provide easy-to-implement nutrition and wellness advice. The following free events are being held for local residents. All programs are open to the public, held at ShopRite of Hoboken and do not require advance registration, unless otherwise noted:

Mon., Oct. 6, 13, 20 & 27 – Eat Well, Be Happy 4-Week Weight Management Class, 6 – 7 p.m. This FREE four-week weight management class has been specially designed for customers with weight loss on their radar this fall. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Tues., Oct. 7 – Flu-Fighting Foods, 2 – 4 p.m. Learn and taste foods that will help keep you healthy during cold and flu season and all year-round.

Fri., Oct. 10 – Produce Pick, 1 – 3 p.m. This month’s produce pick will be the “star” of a new dish prepared by the dietitian.

Thurs., Oct. 16 – Cook Right for Tonight Cooking Class, 7 – 9 p.m. Learn to cook right tonight and every night in this month’s class, which has a harvest of grains menu theme. Items include nutty millet veggie bites, roasted chicken bulgur salad and pomegranate-coconut rice pudding. Cost: $10 per person. Pre-registration at the Courtesy Counter is required.

Sun., Oct. 19 – LiveRight with ShopRite Kids Day! & Cabot sMOOthie Bike Event, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Customers of all ages can “Pedal Out Hunger” on Cabot Creamery Cooperative’s human-powered sMOOthie blender bike to mix yogurt smoothies and log miles in an effort to raise hunger awareness. ShopRite of Hoboken is competing against other stores to win 200 pounds of Cabot cheese for a local food pantry.

Tues., Oct. 21 – Allergy Awareness Meeting, 7 – 8 p.m. Parents of children with food allergies are invited to learn more about how to meet their youngsters’ dietary needs safely. Pre-registration is preferred by emailing the dietitian or

Mon., Oct. 27 – An Apple a Day, 3 – 4 p.m. Is the adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” true? Find out at the Dietitian’s Corner.

Tues., Oct. 28 – Pumpkin Everything Cooking Class, 6 – 8 p.m. More than just a decorative fall staple, pumpkin can be added to some of your favorite foods for a new twist of taste. Pre-registration is required.

Fri., Oct. 31 – Healthy Trick or Treat, 3 – 5 p.m. Stop by the Dietitian’s Corner for a nutritious healthy treat this Halloween.
