The Claremont hosts a nine-wick tournament every year on sloping lawns the first week of August. Singles and doubles match
competition are held on the hotel’s two bent grass croquet courts overlooking Somes Sound. Spectators have the opportunity to witness
technique and theory not commonly associated with this genteel backyard activity.
The Claremont carries on the tradition of nine-wicket croquet, historically known as “American croquet,” and is among the last vestiges to play croquet nearly identical to its original Victorian-era form. (from )
