Castine Plein Arts Festival

from Castine Arts Association

The Castine Arts Association is delighted to sponsor its second annual plein air festival. “Plein Air” is a French term meaning painting in the open air using daylight to depict the landscape as it appears at the moment.
Based on the phenomenal success of last year’s inaugural festival, the 2014 festival has been expanded to a three-day event to be held on July 24, 25 and 26 in Castine (Maine). Forty juried artists will be accepted to participate in this year’s art festival. Activities will commence with artist registration on the morning of Thursday, July 24th beginning at 7:30am at the Castine Town Common on Court Street. Over the course of the three-day festival, the artists will paint at various locations of their choosing within the Town of Castine. The public will have the opportunity to observe and visit these artists as they create their stunning landscapes. Castine has been a popular destination for many of America's most famous artists for over 150 years.
The event will conclude on the evening of July 26th with judging and an exhibition and sale of the original art created over the three-day festival. The public is cordially invited to attend the sale and reception, hosted by the Castine Arts Association, beginning at 6PM on Saturday, July 26th at the Maine Maritime Academy’s Harborview Room. All art created during the festival will be on display and available for purchase. Admission for the three-day event, including the sale and reception, is free to the public.
Artists interested in participating in the festival can find an Artists Prospectus, and instructions for applying at http://www.castinearts.org/plein-air-festival/.

The Castine Arts Association is a non-profit, community-based volunteer group organized for the purpose of promoting awareness and appreciation of visual, literary and performing arts through sponsorship of public programs and events.
