Avian Haven Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center Talk Concludes Winter Wildlife Series
from Belfast Garden ClubOn Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 6:30pm Belfast Garden Club and Belfast Free Library conclude their free winter evening programs series, “Wildlife Conservation in Maine” in Belfast Free Library’s Abbott Room. The April 22nd talk will be Avian Haven Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center presented by executive director and bird rehabilitator Diane Winn.
Avian Haven is one of the largest wild bird rehabilitation practices in New England, having treated more than 12,000 birds since 1999. 2012 was a record year: 1,571 birds from 124 species, from hummingbirds to bald eagles. The facility provides comprehensive medical care in a modern, well-equipped clinic, and rehabilitation in an environment designed to simulate natural conditions in specially designed buildings, including a new “Pool Hall” for aquatic birds. They provide research and education to other wildlife rehabilitators and wildlife professionals on a local, state and national level, and opportunities for enhanced awareness and education to the general public and educational institutions.
Executive Director Diane Winn has been an avian rehabilitator since 1997. She and Marc Payne incorporated Avian Haven as a nonprofit organization in 1999. She has given numerous conference presentations and has published several articles on various aspects of rehabilitation. Earlier in her career, Diane was a Professor of Psychology at Colby College.
The talk is free and open to the public. The Belfast Free Library is located at 106 High Street, Belfast, Maine. For more information visit: www.belfastgardenclub.org, email [email protected] or call Corliss Davis at 207-930-3562.
